Andrew Bird Releases New Christmas EP HARK!: Listen

Published

on

Andrew Bird has released HARK!, a new holiday EP, via Loma Vista. The six-song EP has holiday standards, such as “Holy Night,” “White Christmas,” and Vince Guaraldi’s “Skating,” as well as the original songs “Alabaster” and “Night’s Falling.” Listen to Bird’s HARK! below.

Andrew Bird said in a statement:

I’ve never had the impulse to make a holiday record until last
February. I found myself enjoying the Vince Guaraldi Peanuts records
and thought I’d book a few days in the studio. It was an excuse to
play some classic jazz with my favorite musicians. A lot of folks have
a hard time with the holidays but they serve a purpose to us as a
people—to create comfort, warmth and atmosphere within the darkness
and the cold that can crush one’s spirit. There are a couple originals
in here that address this idea of light and warmth in the darkness as
well as some classics that have some nostalgic resonance with me.
Hark! What sounds come flowing alabaster?

Andrew Bird released My Finest Work Yet earlier this year.

Selena Gomez Says People Were ”Attacking” Her For Gaining Weight

Published

on

Selena Gomez is revealing how she got through some of the hardest times in her life.

In the past few years, the singer’s weathered many a storm in nearly all areas of her life. Not only has she struggled with issues regarding her health, but those problems gradually began to affect her mental health as well. She explains in a new interview with Giving Back Generation, that having Lupus has a direct impact on her weight, which isn’t particularly easy since she lives such a public lifestyle.

According to the 27-year-old, having Lupus, high blood pressure and taking medications has contributed to frequent fluctuations in her weight for various reasons. “It depends on even the month, to be honest, so for me I really noticed when people started attacking me for that,” she explains. “That got to me big time. That really messed me up for a bit.”

She adds that this contributed to her decision to briefly leave social media. Since then, she’s returned to the app but she says that nowadays she hardly looks at her timeline. Selena says, “I’m very happy with living my life and being present. Because that’s it. Similar to me posting a photo and walking away; for me that’s it. I will do a red carpet, I will do whatever; I don’t need to see it; I participated; I felt wonderful and that’s where the extent of it is. I don’t care to expose myself to everyone and hear what they have to say.”

And she hopes that more people will follow suit. The 27-year-old describes seeing “so many beautiful girls and amazing different characters” who are being “demolished by an image that they’re trying to chase.”

“They’re wanting to be a completely different person, but that’s not whats inside of them,” she shares.

However, the pop star says that she too falls victim to the trap that is social media. “But I get it, I look at other people’s pages—or I used to—and I’d be like, ‘Okay, I need to fix myself.'”

She gets through those struggles by continuing to study her faith and leaning on her friends, who she claims she doesn’t “believe” she’d survive without. She tells her friend, “I don’t believe that I could do this life alone.”

Donald Trump Jr. Got Heckled, but We’re All in Hell

Published

on

Oh dear. Oh dear, dear, dear. Oh no. Donald Trump Jr. got booed offstage at his own book-tour event at the University of California, Los Angeles. The president’s son would likely take issue with that framing, so maybe he got booed and, also, in addition, at the same time decided to end an appearance on his book tour.

Whether or not he was booed offstage, Trump was certainly caught between a rock and a racist place. (The rock, in this scenario, also seems to be racist.) The crowd that was doing the heckling wanted him to open the talk up to questions—the chants went from “U-S-A!” to “Q-and-A!”—but it would have probably found a reason to yell no matter what.

To understand how Trump got heckled in what one might expect to be his safe place, let’s identify the players: Turning Point USA, an organization headed up by 26-year-old Charlie Kirk, hosted the talk; it’s responsible for bringing some of the most frustrating people currently living to college campuses. (To get a sense of his general vibe, here’s this: Young America’s Foundation, a student organization cofounded by William F. Buckley Jr., once accused Turning Point USA of padding their numbers with white nationalists, among other acts of deceit.) But the twist, I suppose, is that the people yelling the loudest were likely supporters of 21-year-old podcaster Nicholas Fuentes, who are galvanized around the idea of shutting down the borders entirely and pulling all troops from overseas, according to the Guardian. They believe the Trump administration’s hands are tied by a nefarious crew of immigration apologists and free traders, and some accuse Kirk of promoting Israel over America. They’ve incorporated heckling his events into their charming repertoire.

So, yes, there are no winners here, and, sure, it’s a mild shock that a hole to hell didn’t open up right there on the UCLA campus.

Trump should be fairly familiar with this general zone, what with all that time out on the road, and yet he appeared a little uncomfortable in the video that made the rounds Monday morning.

One would think it would be difficult for Junior to be out-trolled while promoting a book called Triggered, but do not underestimate my guy. He’s quite talented.

I guess this is a test case for what the opposite of “being triggered” looks like, according to Junior. I always thought it was saying, “I’m fine. I’m fine! I’m fine. YOU’RE dumb,” over and over again, until dad forgives you for accepting a free engagement diamond in exchange for getting engaged in a New Jersey mall, an act so embarrassing to him that he went on national television to chastise you. But there’s a different way, one demonstrated in the short video that’s making the rounds online: Stay awfully quiet while one’s girlfriend accuses conservative protesters of…online dating. “I bet you engage and go on online dating because you’re impressing no one here to get a date in person,” Kimberly Guilfoyle said.

Oh, I figured it out! A hole to hell didn’t open up because all of us are already in hell right now! Good!
